I trialled 6 varieties of zinnia on the farm this season and the salmon rose has come up trumps. It has amazing stem length, big showy flowers which are consistently doubled and a lovely consistent colour.
Wine is next with an amazing colour which fades from magenta to a truer purple, good stem length, big double blooms but the plants aren’t as prolific as the others in the patch.
Then lastly here is the “coral”. This is not my idea of coral. The colour is almost neon red in bright light, over time they fade to a nicer shade but they’re pretty garish. They also have smaller stems, inconsistent blooms, only half of which are double and many of the flowers are small too.
Next up the yellows!
