Did you notice our updated about page? Did you notice a new voice on our Instagram feed? Did you notice how I changed everything from saying I to we?! Yes! I have a partner in
crime flower addiction! Her name is Bethany and I like her a lot!
Bethany is coming on board to be Little Triffids go to person in all things wedding flowers! She’s a dab hand when it comes to big lush arrangements, warm communication skills and organisation. She’s also full of enthusiasm, passion and life skills. I’m so lucky to have her as a friend and now colleague! She’s helping me push Little Triffids Flowers to new horizons I was too tentative to tread and the dreams we have for this little baby are super exciting!
So! If you’re a bride or someone after event flowers you’ll be talking with her. If you’re a subscriber she might be creating and delivering your blooms. You’ll also notice her on our social media feeds and pssst just secretly – that’s her lovely face in our bridal shoot blog post, but don’t tell her I told you! I’ve quizzed her on some very important topics just so we all know a little bit more…
Bethany! Tell us about your flower addiction…
It’s hard for me to imagine how anyone could not love flowers (and I know I can share that with you flower-loving folk). They are these beautiful little pieces of the natural world that we can bring into our built surroundings, and any room is improved by their addition. Flowers give me a strange kind of calm and peaceful happiness. Though there are moments of fast shallow breathing when I get my hands on something really beautiful. Roses tend to have that effect. And Sophie grows 15 varieties so I’m in heaven most days.
Describe yourself in 3 words:
What, only three?!
Ok i’ll do it, i’ll do it. um… Warm, grounded, detailed.
Favourite flower? (Okay you can pick one for each season!)
Spring: Parrot Tulips
But I am also really into foliage especially strange and unusual things like different herbs, nuts, berries and vegetables gone to seed and lucky me the LT garden is FULL of such wonders!
Ice-cream or chocolate? Which flavour?
Chocolate, no question. I love mint in my bouquets and mint in my choc. If you look closely at that photo of me you will see a block of dark mint chocolate on the bench in front of me! Definitely an essential.
What inspires you every day?
I guess a lot of inspiration comes directly from the Little Triffids garden and all of the flowers and foliage we have available to us each day. The plants kinda tell us what we will be making that day by being lush and ready. There’s something magic in growing everything yourself. You know what’s good and when, you see things unfurling and readying themselves, and you know it’s fresh. Like fresh fresh.
There are also certainly a few favourite florists whose work I admire daily and draw from, particularly for events and bigger jobs. I love Alicia of The Wildflower Perth, Sean Cook of Mr Cook Flowers, PoHo, Saskia Havekes of Grandiflora, Ruby and the Wolf, Katie Marx Flowers, Emily Michele Smith of Boutierre Girls… there are so many! Sophie and I have some quite different flower idols but I think that makes for a really good mix.
